Article: Brazen cyber-hacking team busted in wide attacks
    Name of newspaper: associated press
    Published: 3-6-12

This article that I have just read is about cyber-hacking this is important because a group of people are hacking credit cards for others money, websites saying the wrong information like that Tupac was alive in New Zealand. “Their exploits included attacks on cyber-security firms and the posting of a fake story that slain rapper Tupac Shakur was alive in New Zealand.” This is an issue because people are getting their money taken form them and them or the banks don’t even know why. Also because people are being told the wrong information when they post fake story’s on others websites. This article is interesting because now people know why their money is being taken away from them or gone missing its because these cyber-hackers are taking it all and changing everything up but now they got caught for it, finally.

  2. By: Seth Borenstein “Biggest Solar Storm in Years Nears Earth, May Disrupt Power” USA TODAY March 7, 2012 March 7, 2012 http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/space/story/2012-03-07/solar-storm-earth-power-disruptions/53398390/1

This article is talking about how on Tuesday March 6, 2012 the sun erupted. This is going to be the largest solar flare in five years, that is racing down to earth. This may release charged particles that could disrupt power grids, GPS, and airplane flights. It is said to start Thursday March 8, 2012 at 7 a.m. EST. Forecasters say the flare is growing as it speeds outwards from the sun. This solar storm is likely to last through Friday morning. The region that it erupts can still send more blasts. “Its hitting us right in the nose.” Says Joe Kunches, a scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The charged particles will hit Earth at a speed of 400 million mph. “It could give us a bit of a jolt” says Alex Young an NASA solar physicist.
This is an important event that is going on because solar can disrupt with magnetic, radio and radiation emissions. The storm has the potential to trip electrical power grids. This means that millions of people can lose electric to this storm and might not get it back. The storm can cause communication problems and added radiation around the north and south poles. This can force airlines to reroute flights. This can really effect the people on Earth when this storm hits. Many things can be damaged with and it might be hard to get it back to normal. This is important because people should be aware of what is going on and what might soon happen.

  3. Associated Press. "Man Arrested After Homemade Cannon Kills Girlfriend" Fox News on the Web. March 7, 2012. March 7, 2012.

This article was about a man who lived near San Diego and shot a cannon killing his girlfriend. It said that the man, Richard Fox, shot the cannon loaded with firework powder and his girlfriend was found dead. In the article it said that there were three other people and 4 year old girl inside the trailer too but were able to escape before Richard shot the cannon. In the article it said "preliminary evidence suggested Fox was under the influence of alcohol" which is probably one of the reasons why the cannon was shot. Also, it said that he used to like to experiment with things like guns but they would always go bad.

This is important because people need to be informed of what's happening all over the country. Its an issue because if more people were around then more than one person could have been killed. Also, people should be informed that there are people out there who are doing these things like messing with guns and cannons. This article was interesting because not many people would think that others could be able to have a homemade cannon built. The man did go to the hospital for wounds that he had and then was arrested because of the death that happened so that's a good thing that he was arrested.

In this article it states that a cloud of charged particles is supposed to hit thursday and can mess with utility grids, airline flights, satellite networks, and GPS services more intensely in northern areas. "Astronomers say the sun has been relatively quiet for some time. And this storm, while strong, may seem fiercer because Earth has been lulled by several years of weak solar activity." The storms only disrupt technology, not people. Its been awhile since sun activity so scientist don't know if it will effect newer technology.

This is important because it could effect many peoples jobs and daily life. This article was interesting because it talks about the sun patterns and its effects. This issue about this is that people are so dependent on technology that some may react very irrational. Its important people know about this so they're prepared.

  5. Are Popcorn prices worth suing over? Apparently Joshua Thopmson seems to think so.Thompson is suing AMC because he realizes that taking four people to the movies tickets alone can cost up to $60, plus $16 more for popcorn (more if everyone gets their own popcorn), and another $15 to $20 for drinks. “On December 29, Thompson says he bought at soda at a fast food restaurant for $1.06 and some candy at a local drug store for $1.67. At the theater, he paid $4.50 for the drink and $3.50 for the chocolate treat.”
This is important because why should people pay more for candy, sodas, and popcorn at the movie theaters than in stores? This demonstrates an issue because movie theaters are very popular and they are over-charging for common food items. This is an interesting development because most people would come up with something other to do than go to the movies but Joshua is deciding to sue the movie theater companies. This article is interesting because it’s a different solution to a very common problem.

  6. Solar storm not as strong as feared
    By Dan Vergano, USA TODAY
    http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/space/story/2012-03-08/solar-storm-earth/53414948/1

NOAA rated the resultant solar storm at a G1 level, a minor storm, largely because the outburst's magnetic field aligned with Earth's in a way that minimized damage. Before the storm hit Kunches predicted that the storm would be a G3, considered a strong storm. Astronomers could tell the solar storm Tuesday was coming in fast and pointed at Earth but they couldn't predict the magnetic impact. The storm only diverted plane flights over the poles, around 15 minute delays and disrupted radio communications.

If the solar storm was stronger it could have done serious damage to satallite's in space, and also radio communications on earth. If the blast reached earths atmosphere the magnetic impact would have been very powerful. This article was very interesting because the minor storm could have been very serious.

This is about the on going story about Joseph Kony and he's ability to abduct innocent children girls and boys. He uses boys to fight in his army killing innocent people and their parents, and girls for sex slaves. this has been going on in Africa for years now. The only way to make him stop is if he gets captured. So what people are doing now is spreading the word about him and try and make him famous. Theirs over thousands of children that he has over his power and some were lucky enough to escape. This video is touching and interesting because it gets to people hearts mine included and help people really understand whats going on in the world. I think that the more this information spreads the faster Kony gets arrested and peace can be restored in Africa

  8. http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/08/world/asia/afghanistan-air-drugs-investigation/index.html?hpt=wo_c2

The U.S is investigating some members of the Afghan air force that they possibly used their military aircraft for transporting drugs. The investigators want to find out whether or not the drug-runners are linked to the shooting deaths of 8 U.S Air Officers at the airport in the Afghan capitol, Kabul.
This article is important because it shows that people in the Afghan air force are smuggling drugs in their planes. The drug smugglers might be linked to a shooting that killed 8 United States Air Officers in Afghanistan last year in the capitol, Kabul. The officers killed were involved in a early investigation of misuse of their air planes. One of the shooters was an Afghan officer who coordinated their air force.

Solar flares that occurred on Tuesday had many people worried about the affects of them on Earth. Geomagnetic and solar radiation storms that hit earth were said to disturb GPS systems, power grids, and other satellite systems, but no disturbances were reported. The solar storm was calculated at G1 intensity, this is considered weak whereas G5 is extreme and powerful. Delta Air Lines spokesman Anthony Black stated, “ Today we are using alternate routes for seven westbound flights to Asia. We will monitor possible solar impact to the operation in making decisions for tomorrow and future dates.”

This article is important because solar flares can be extremely dangerous to Earth’s atmosphere. If the solar storm were rated at a higher level such as G2, or G3 then it would have created interruptions in satellite communications, GPS systems, and many other things. The solar storm caused numerous airlines to choose alternate routes in order to fly passengers safely. Safety precautions and measures should be taken more seriously especially with something like this. Solar storms, and flares can be highly dangerous to earth and can cause catastrophe, luckily this time they were weak and unharmful.

After many terrifying moments for Jacob Acaye the former child abductee at the heart of the film Kony 2012. Which has become been seen more by more then 30 million people around the world, he has defended the video and the makers against criticism that is the misleading championing western intervention which is already waning and on the run. The LRA militia took prisoner Acaye when it had attacked his home village in 2002 when his brother was killed. He escaped from the LRA when they handed him over to another united and had asked him how long he was with the LRA and after that he ran away because he was with the LRA for three month that they didn’t keep and eye on him because they didn’t think he would run away. “Its not the fault of the people there that they were abducted and used. They needed to be helped. The organization has fought really hard to rebuild my school. It is doing good work.”
It may not by our war or our business to get into but this is important because these children are being abducted and turning into killers and committing more crimes that they are forced to do. I find this very interesting because so many people are being part of it and wanting to help to change the lives for this kids to have a child hood and not fearing going to sleep at night because their afraid of being abducted by the LRA. The article is very shocking that kids and families have to live like this every day in fear.

At the pep rally in San Francisco where Apple introduced the new Ipad there was a lot of questioning going on of what the new Ipad should be called. During the 90-minute press conference people got very anxious to find about the name but the answer to the question later just was answered, "It's the new iPad. What are you talking about?" An apple spokesmen also said it wasn’t a big deal not everybody was happy with the name since the same occurred when the “Ipad” first was introduced but still was sold.

It is true that people often don’t like names of new products at first but everybody customizes to the new names. But there could be some confusion when somebody was selling “The new Ipad” because the Ipad 2 also was called “The new Ipad”. It is important to have different names for different products or nobody will be sure what the other was talking about, even though Apple also just did the same thing with the Ipod.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/03/04/nevada-county-considers-curfew-for-pets-on-las-vegas-strip/

This week I chose to read the article Nevada County considers curfew for pets on Las Vegas Strip. This article is about Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani’s idea to only have animals on the walkways and pedestrian bridges from 5 a.m. to noon. Chris thinks that the business folks came up with a good compromise opposed to the similar measure in January that caused protests. Corridors are usually filled with tourists and are a popular place for people to bring their animals. If the law is passed then it won’t apply to service animals for the handicapped or officers on the job.

This article is important because the law can benefit both people and their animals. By allowing people to be on the Las Vegas Strip between 5 a.m. to noon they won’t have to endure the sizzling summer sidewalks in Sin City’s neon corridor. This will help prevent dehydration, sunburn and heat stroke. It will also prevent people’s feet and animal’s paws from being burnt on the walkways. This law should be passed for the protection of both people and their animals.

Veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder have been given opioid painkillers. These painkillers caused higher frequencies of accidental overdoses when prescribed to these kinds of patients. The Dept. of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense have been trying to lessen the use of opioid painkillers among veterans. Doctors aren’t listening and continue to give them opioids, instead of other options.

This article is important because its not a good thing that doctors are continuing to give these veterans opioid painkillers. This is an issue because its been causing medical problems for the veterans. This article was interesting because I don’t really hear about issues like this a lot. The doctors should stop giving them these painkillers and look towards other helpful options.

  14. Studies done by the Department of education show that Black students face more discipline in public schools, especially the boys. In the sample schools they used, 18% of the student population was black, 35% have been suspended once, 46% were suspended more than once, and 39% of all expulsions. School surveys showed that over 70 percent of students involved in school related arrests are either black or Hispanic. Schools have began to start adopting zero-tolerance policies, people have been given suspension without warnings and this has sent kids away for numerous days. That is how the Department of Education is planning to fix this problem.

On Tuesday, March 6, 2012, a mysterious video named,“Kony 2012” hit the internet. The 29 minute video happened to be about children Africa and how a rebel group led by L.R.A. leader Joseph Kony is ruining families lives. The idea of this video made by Invisible Children which is a non profit group is to expose Kony’s practices and show people who exactly he is. Kony is the number 1 wanted terrorist by the International Criminal Court for mass kidnapping, sexual abuse, and murder. Ever since debuting on Tuesday the video has reached 9.9 Million views and is trending worldwide on twitter “#StopKony.”

What a nice sight to see a bunch of Americans trying to help out fellow human beings. Joseph Kony is a monster that needs to be captured and/ or killed. Just to be clear, Kony has been running around Uganda for over 20 years. It is a pure travesty that America and other countries haven’t acknowledged Kony and his nefarious acts and have allowed him to get away with this for years. Even though Kony is not a threat to the U.S. or their government it is the right thing to do even if it doesn’t help them economically. What this monster has done is unmoral and wrong and hopefully Invisible Children will raise awareness and force the U.S. government and other governments to come together to put an end to this barbarian.

  16. ‘Pink slime:’ Combo of connective tissue, scraps hidden in your kids’ lunch

That pink slime that was found in McDonalds’ hamburgers and Taco Bell Tacos is now being used in school lunch meals. Pink slime is used as a substitute for meat because it is a lot cheaper, but very unhealthy. It is not real meat and the fast food places stopped using it in their food. Gerald Zirnstein, a microbiologist at Food Safety Inspection Service says, “Science is the truth, and pink slime at this point in time is a fraudulent lie.” The USDA plans to buy 7 million pounds of this Lean Beef Trimming for the national school lunch program.

This article is important because students should not be eating fake meat. It is incredibly unhealthy what they put in “pink slime”. If schools think that students should start eating healthier, why use fake meat in the school food? Just because it is easy and cheap to make, doesn’t mean it should be used. If fast food places stopped using it, then why should schools begin to use it?

"We found that marriage boosted survival whether the patient was a man or a woman," says Ellen Idler. If your married and undergo a heart surgery your over three times more likely to survive the first three months after the operation. It is said that the higher long-term death rate for singles was linked to higher smoking rates. Also less than half of the U.S. adults are single, which is the highest it’s ever been.

This article is important because it shows how easily people affect our lives. Which is very interesting because nobody would expect to live a healthier life being married. This demonstrates an issue because some people just don’t care anymore, they’ll live their life eating unhealthy or alone. Some people take themselves out of the dating world because they don’t think they’ll find another. But doubt is what gets in the way.

    Oren Dorell, USA Today
    http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-03-08/invisible-children-kony-2012/53422862/1

The Viral video about Joseph Kony, a man who takes kids and forces them to fight in his army, is stirring up a lot of controversy. A lot of people are saying that the timing was off for the video to come out. The reasoning behind this was that because President Obama already sent 100 special forces troops to help the local Uganda military to find Kony. According to the non-profit Invisible Children spent 37% of its $8.9 million 2011 budget was spent on programs in Africa, and 35% was spent on awareness programs. That this was just a plot to make more money.

While reading this article it seemed very prevalent that a lot of the "Kony 2012" video was made for profit. Joseph Kony is not the only man doing things like this. There are plenty of people doing similar things if not exactly the same. The fact that Peter Pham said right after the video release promoted the fact to buy t-shirts and other paraphernalia, even though not all the money sent to the company is going to the people they say they are giving it to

This article is about the H5NI virus, or also known as the Bird Flu or Spanish Influenza. People are again worried about it because there was an outbreak in Thailand in 2003. 587 people were infected and 346 of the people died, 60 percent. “No one’s so alarmed that they’re saying this is the start of the next pandemic.” said Malcolm Gladwell. Overall I this disease should not be a big worry yet.

I think this is important because it shows that history will always keep repeating itself no matter how many precautions you take. I think is demonstrates the issue that people will pay no attention to anything until it is at its full effect. I found it interesting that no one really knows about this yet and it was a virus that killed many Americans during war. Also, people as soon as it effects someone here will most likely go nuts and think they have it as soon as they get a cold. Overall I think that we should try to make sure it does not come to the US because it will cause chaos.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/09/sports/basketball/for-the-knicks-distraction-by-addition.html?_r=1&ref=sports

This article is about how since Carmelo Anthony has came back from his injury the Knicks have been doing very poorly Their record in the past 7 games is 2-5. The team’s chemistry is very low because Anthony and Lin haven’t played together until this last week and they had added 2 great players in J.R Smith and Baron Davis. The Knicks are trying to mash together a bunch of starts and make a team out of that. But that doesn’t always work. Carmelo is having a tough time getting it going this past week because he said he’s still getting used to Lin as his new point guard. Also, the Knicks are still getting used to all the new faces going in and out of the game. As what D’ Antoni had said “A little bit of a transition,” D’Antoni said earlier this week, “but it’s a good transition.” The Knicks still have 7 weeks left to get their team chemistry up and improve greatly.
This is an important article because for die hard Knicks fans like me love to hear any updates on the team’s play and find these articles very interesting. This provides an issue because the Knicks have been playing poorly lately and the more games they lose the more they drop down in seeding. This is an interesting development because it explains a lot of interesting things about the team that I didn’t know about and key reasons for why they have been losing lately. This article was interesting to me because I love the Knicks and I find it interesting what these author’s views on the Knicks and what the team doing wrong to lose all these games lately. Hopefully the Knicks start to play better within the next few weeks!

They have also played many hard teams but that does not explain anything because Jeremy Lin was is a rookie and led the team to win 6 games out of 7.

As Peyton Manning says goodbye to his old team he thanks all the people that have helped him in his 14 year career with the Indianapolis Colts. As Peyton is leaving the Colts the Jets are very interested in having the future Hall of Fame quarterback on there team. The Jets would be a nasty team with Peyton running the offense. Rex Ryan and the General Manager Mike Tannenbaum will offer Manning a good amount of money to try to bring back a better Jets offense. The jets might have to release a couple of there stars to get Manning though. The Jets want Manning but they don’t know what Manning wants.
I don’t really like watch sports but when I heard that Peyton Manning might be going to the Jets I was really excited because my family and me watch the Jets. The Jets should try to get Peyton he would help out the Jets a lot and they might even be able to win a super bowl.

Magnetic eruption on the sun have sent huge bursts of light towards earth. When powerful enough these eruptions can disrupt satellites and power grids. A storm in 1989 knocked out a large power grid in quebec and these storms can also interrupt high frequency radios. “At this point it’s a minor storm,” said C. Alex Young, a senior solar physicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. “It’s not going to be that big even if the levels increase a bit. This is really not something to be concerned about.” Even though stated it was not powerful enough it still created quite a buzz, many exaggerated news reports about possible dangers to air travel and communications systems surface soon after.
This is important because if satellites were to be affected so would every GPS system under that satellite. This is an issue because many people rely on GPS to navigate their way around and so does our military. Also if large ares were to lose power it would take time to reset and restore all of the systems. It is also interesting because it effects the Northern lights making them visible as far south as New York.

Anna Gristina was denied a reduction for her bail for orchestrating prostitution business for high-class clientele. Her bail was sent to 2 billion. Anna Gristina net worth is in the millions. Her clients included politicians, bankers, executives, and top law enforcement officials. They caught her through wire taps and 24 hour surveillance on her and her building/brothel .

If these government officials do get revealed I believe that they should be prosecuted as an example to our country.

McCain Calls for U.S.-Led Airstrikes in Syria
    By THE NEW YORK TIMES

On Monday morning senator John McCain called for the U.S. to lead airstrikes into Syria’s armed forces to help protect the rebels and civilians, As much power as the strikes had in Libya Last year, this strikes stakes were much higher in Syria. He said that the United states needed to act without the approval of United Nations, but have support from Arabs and other allies. “it would be a strategic and moral defeat for the United States,” Mr. McCain said on the Senate floor, to the idea of not taking action.
This overall topic is important because the Unites states as a nation we think we are the best, we think we can help everyone and anyone in the world but yet we are not ready to take on these actions, we are making moves against nations that have nothing to do with us, and we have our own priorities, for example we still have soldiers in Aphganistan, We also as a nation are going into a economic depression. A Country shouldn’t have to worry about other nations and places in the world, The United states is having its own problems, and this demonstrates that the country looks for problems.

Soda companies are changing the ingredients in their caramel coloring to prevent having to put a cancer warning on the cans and bottles of soda. This is mainly Coca-cola Co. and PepsiCo. Inc.. California Law states that all drinks with a high level if carcinogens must bear a cancer warning on the container or label. The companies say that changes will be expanded nationally to stream line their products. They also say that the productswill not taste any different and have always been safe.

Quentin Fottrell “4 Reasons to Pass On the New iPad” Smartymoney.com March 8, 2012 http://www.smartmoney.com/spend/technology/4-reasons-to-pass-on-the-new-ipad-1331163741460/?link=SM_hp_featStory
“Apple enthusiasts point out the latest tablet, which CEO Tim Cook unveiled today in San Francisco, offers twice the screen resolution of prior models, for times the graphics power, a 5-megapixel camera, and voice dictation capability-- all for the same starting price.” Many new products come out often and everyone thinks they need to have the next big thing. Different companies are all trying to make their product the best, but their is always going to be something to add, fix and adjust. One of the good things about having new products come out is that the last new product then has lower price.
“The iPad 2 sold over 15 million units Some experts contend that it doesn’t makes sense for most users to buy into each new incremental improvement, and instead they should aim for every other upgrade.” There are some positives if you wait, if you can wait for every other upgrade it will be more worth your while because there will be new advances not just some minor adjustments.
“Apple says the new 1.4 pound iPad is heftier and thicker than its predecessor, however it does not appear the new bulkiness was to beef up its armor, but to cram in a more powerful processor and a display with twice the resolution.” Everyone was tired of carrying around big thick, heavy and bulky Macs so they tried to make them smaller and smaller BUT then they forgot about durability.
“There appears to be a largely unnoticed trend in the tablet market: they are slowly evolving into old-fashioned laptop computers” Some people like the key boards for typing and this is like the old fashion key board.
“For consumers on a tight budget, experts say there are better alternatives. Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook have advantages over the iPad 3-- and price is chief among them.” Now with this huge market there are many competitors. That means that there are some brand that many cheap but good models over the good but expensive models.
This is important because if we start to skip every other generation of technology, then the Manufacturer would have the minor adjustments and the new program all in one model instead of 2 models to get that final product. This demonstrates a problem because this could save on money and more people would buy that final product, so the manufacturer is making money and this may stimulate the economy. This article is interesting because its true we don’t need to buy every product we just need some patience.

This is another challenge for the United States government. They had trained this police officer to do good not Evil.

Joseph Kony is the most wanted man in the world. He is a terrorist in Africa who murders, and kidnaps African children. People in America are starting to realize what is happening in Africa and want to help. The goal is to make Kony famous enough for the government to send more troops to kill him.
This is important for people to realize what is happening around the world. This is a problem because innocent people are being killed and no government in africa is powerful enough to do anything about it. The article is interesting because it makes people realize what is happening to other people around the world. I believe that the United States should not get any more involved in the situation that it already is.

"An Australian businessman pleaded guilty Thursday to strapping a fake bomb around an 18-year-old girl's neck in an attempt to extort money." from her family In August Pulver wearing a suit and mask went into 18-year-old room and told her that he was not going hurt her. Then he put a fake bomb around her neck and told her he would be back, when he did not she called her parents. It toke 8 hours for the police to finishes testing the bomb before taking it off. They found him in the US Kentucky.
This article is important because it informs us of the world outside of the states. The issue is how people scare children just because they want money. The fake bomb or a really bomb should not be use to extort money.

  33. Students Searched Friday At Smithtown HS West. By Bill Mason and John Valenti. Published March 9th, 2012 and viewed at March 9th, 2012. http://www.newsday.com/long-island/suffolk/students-searched-friday-at-smithtown-hs-west-1.3590607

At Smithtown High school, officials found gun violence on the bathroom walls. Students were allowed to come back to school friday morning by going through a screening and security checking their backpacks. No weapons were found, but thursday, hey were in “lockdown mode” after the treat was found.

I think this is an important event because, yes, no guns were found but the students all were safe. If the school did not do what they did, it could have turned into a shoot out. This is interesting because some student wrote violence on the bathroom wall, and the school took action. My opionion is that the school took all the right actions in keeping the students and staff safe.

  34. Douglas Rushkoff. “A New Rold for the 1% CNN March 8th, 2012. Updated 6:50 PM http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/08/opinion/rushkoff-one-percent/index.html?hpt=us_mid

This article describes how the 1% (billionaires and venture capitalists) could still stay in the 1%. The 99% is the group of people that are in the middle class and below. In the middle ages, the feudal lords were the 00.01% had control over the land and its people. In 1100, the Crusades moved to Europe and were able to grow crops and weave cotton. Made the 00.01% into a higher percentage.
This article is important because it proves that if there were more job opportunities, the 1% would become a higher percentage. The issue today is that jobs are becoming harder to get. If more jobs are created, it will help raise the economy and make life easier for the citizens of America.

  35. Robert Pear, White House Works to Shape Debate Over Health Law, New York Times, March 9th 2012.
This article bring up a big point that everyone has been talking about; the new Health law. President Barack Obama has been trying to get this law passed for a while. The Supreme Court now argues on the new health care law and is trying to summon leader of nonprofit organizations to back the health law. “On Wednesday, White House officials summoned dozens of leaders of nonprofit organizations that strongly back the health law”
The reason this is important is because there is a lot of problems going on with this topic and people want an answer on how this is going to work. This demonstrates an issue because “the health care law seeks to extend insurance to more than 30 million people, primarily by expanding Medicaid and providing federal subsidies to help lower- and middle-income Americans buy private coverage.” I feel like just handing out 30 million people health isn’t reliable and I feel like people are going to depend on the government for things.

A 70-year old man Juan Gonzalez admitted to killing his 98-year old mother before he attempted suicide, he used a bag to suffocate his bedridden mother, Teresa Gonzalez. Juan thought he was going to die soon so he feared no one would take care of his mother, who was blind and deaf. He tried to commit suicide by slashing his wrists and overdosing on insulin. A week later officers found Teresa dead and Juan unconscious. Juan suffers from diabetes and a kidney disorder. He has already served 6 months in jail and will be released next month, he is on 5 years of probation with psychiatric care.
Juan Gonzalez did commit a murder, but he did it with reasoning. 6 months in jail isn’t a lot for committing a murder. He should of stayed longer, he didn’t have to kill his mother she could of went into a nursing home or found other family members to take care of her. Killing her wasn’t the solution.

Pat Robertson says Marijuana use should be legal

    By: Jesse McKinley
New York Times, published March 7, 2012.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/08/us/pat-robertson-backs-legalizing-marijuana.html?scp=2&sq=marijuana&st=cse

Pat Robertson thinks that marijuana should be legalized. He believes it should be treated just like alcohol beverages. He stated “I really believe we should treat marijuana the way we treat beverage alcohol”. He has never used marijuana.
This recent standing on the marijuana topic could significantly effect his run for presidency.

He can have a great impact on the vote for legalization in the fall. He is an evangelical Christian. This outbreak could help over crowding in prisons. Mr. Robertson said that the nation has gone completely overboard on the concept of being tough on crime, and its out of control.

  38. "Viral video puts spotlight on Ugandan warlord" By Ashley Fantz

A 30 minute documentary about a Ugandan war criminal, Joseph Kony, leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, is one of the most popular videos on the Web today. The LRA is known for abducting, raping and mutualizing its victims. It’s goal is to overthrow the Ugandan government. It’s clearly something that people should be aware of. It has been reposted and shared several million times on various social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.) By Thursday, a video of the documentary has been viewed on Youtube at least 32 million times. Celebrities have raised awareness about it also. However, there has been a lot of caution saying that Invisible Children has manipulated facts in the past and advised viewers to watch the documentary with that in mind. Noelle Jouglet, Invisible Children’s spokeswoman, said the group used “2012” to attract more initial online attention, suspecting people would click on that because there’s high interest in the 2012 U.S. presidential election. According to researchers, Invisible Children Inc. only donates around 30% of what they bring in to help the cause and majority goes to the Ugandan government and soldiers which some would say is incredibly corrupt
